At Eight to Eighty Eyewear (“we,” “us,” or “our”), we use a small number of cookies and similar technologies on our website www.eighttoeighty.com (the “Website”) to keep it working and to remember your choices. This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are, exactly what we store and why, and how you can manage it. By using our Website, you agree to our use of cookies as described in this policy.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (e.g., computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and keep you signed in. We also use similar technologies built into your browser: local storage and session storage, which keep information on your device, and a service worker, which keeps a few files for use without a connection. In this policy, “cookies” includes these technologies unless we say otherwise.
2. What We Store on Your Device
Everything below is needed for the Website to work, remembers a choice you made, or counts visits without identifying you. We do not use advertising, social media, or third-party analytics cookies, and nothing we store is used to track your activity on other websites.
a. Cookies
| Name | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
e2e_sid | Keeps you signed in to your account. | Until you close your browser, or 30 days if you choose to stay signed in |
e2e_chal | Holds a sign-in in progress while you enter your verification code. | Until you close your browser; the sign-in it holds expires after 15 minutes |
e2e_dev | Remembers a device you chose to trust, so you are not asked for a code every time. | 30 days |
e2e_ml | Makes a sign-in link work only in the browser that asked for it. | 15 minutes |
e2e_inv | Holds a sign-up in progress while you enter the code we emailed you. | Until you close your browser; the code expires after 15 minutes |
e2e_csrf | Stops other websites from sending our forms in your name. | 2 hours |
e2e_signed_in | Tells the next page that you have just signed in, so a phone can offer to turn on notifications. | 10 minutes |
e2elang | Remembers which language you chose: English, Spanish, French, Korean or Simplified Chinese. While you are signed in, your choice is also kept with your account, so it follows you to your other devices. | 1 year from your last visit, set only if you choose a language |
e2elangAt | Notes when the language on this device was chosen, and on whose account, so the newest choice is the one used. | 1 year |
e2e_brochures | Lets Build Brochure list the brochures made in this browser. | 1 year |
e2e_order_for | Remembers which company a sales consultant is ordering for while they add frames. | Until the order is sent, or 1 day |
b. Storage in Your Browser
These items stay on your device and are not sent to us, except where noted.
| Name | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Cart | The frames in your cart, shared by all your tabs. While you are signed in, it is also sent to us and kept with your account, so it follows you to your other devices. Otherwise it is sent to us only when you send the order. | Until you send or clear it; a cart left untouched for 30 days is emptied. One kept with your account is removed from this device after you sign out. |
| Order tool picks | Frames and quantities you are working on in our ordering tools, Compare, Build Brochure, and the barcode tools. Sent to us only when you use them, for example to send an order or make a brochure. | Until you clear them; some only until you close the tab |
| Your contact details | The company, account number, name, email, and phone you typed into an order form or Build Brochure, so you do not have to type them again. Sent to us only when you send that form. | Until you clear them |
| Your settings | Night mode, grid or list view, the Scan Order sound, whether barcodes show on printed sheets, and the language for notifications. While you are signed in, night mode and grid or list view are also sent to us and kept with your account, so they follow you to your other devices. | Until you clear them; the Scan Order sound only until you close the tab |
| Notices you have seen | That you have closed the cookie notice or seen our Home Screen and notification tips, so they are not shown again. | Until you clear them |
| Visitor number | A random number, used only to count visitors. Sent to us with each page you open (see section 7). | Until you clear it |
| Chat with Otis | Your chat with Otis, our chat assistant, so it carries on from page to page, whether it is open, and whether he has waved hello. What you write is sent to us when you send it. | The chat: 3 hours after your last message, or until you choose Start over; whether it is open: until you close the tab; that he waved hello: until you clear it |
| Offline copies | Our style and script files and the Scan Order page, kept by a service worker so Scan Order keeps working without a connection. | Until the next update; the Scan Order copy is removed when you sign out |
3. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies to:
- Keep you signed in and protect your account and our forms.
- Keep your cart, your picks, and the details you typed, so nothing is lost between pages or visits.
- Remember your settings, such as language, night mode, and grid or list view.
- Count how many people visit each page, without identifying them.
- Let Scan Order keep working without a connection.
We do not use cookies to show you advertising, to build a profile of you, or to recommend products based on your browsing, and we do not sell or share what they hold.
4. Third-Party Services
Our pages do not set cookies for other companies. Some features do connect your browser to outside services, which receive your IP address and browser details as part of each request:
- Google Fonts: the typefaces on our pages load from Google’s servers. Google Fonts does not set cookies.
- Photon, an OpenStreetMap address search run by komoot: when you type in a street-address field, what you type is sent to Photon to suggest matching addresses.
- jsDelivr: when you open Scan Order’s camera on a browser that cannot read barcodes by itself, the barcode reader loads from this network. The camera’s pictures never leave your device.
- Browser push services (Apple, Google, Microsoft, or Mozilla, depending on your browser): if you turn on notifications, your browser registers with its maker’s push service, and our notifications are delivered through it.
- Payment processors: the Make a payment page links to PayTrace (credit card) and Stripe (ACH/eCheck). You enter your payment details on their pages, not ours, and they may set their own cookies there.
- Calendly, carriers, and social media: booking a video call opens Calendly’s website, tracking links open UPS, FedEx, or USPS, and our social media links open Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube.
These third parties may place cookies on your device and collect data subject to their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies for more information.
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You can control how cookies are used on our Website:
- Cookie Notice: On your first visit to our home page, a notice tells you how we use cookies. Choosing Accept hides it. Because we do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies, the notice has no other settings.
- Browser Settings: You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling
cookies may affect the Website’s functionality. Instructions for common browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Other Site Data
- Firefox: Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences > Privacy
- Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions
- Clearing Site Data: Clearing your browser’s data for our Website removes everything listed in section 2, including your cart and saved details, and signs you out.
- Notifications: You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings.
6. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) feature. Our Website does not currently respond to DNT signals, as there is no standardized protocol for handling them. However, you can manage cookies as described above.
7. Data Collected by Cookies
The cookies and storage described above hold only:
- Random sign-in and security codes. Which account a code belongs to is kept on our server, not in the cookie.
- The frames, quantities, and details you put into the cart and our tools.
- Your settings and the other choices listed in section 2.
- A random visitor number. Each page you open sends us the page’s name and this number so we can count visitors. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) form of the number, never your IP address or browser details, and delete it after 400 days.
This data is used in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
8. Retention of Cookie Data
Cookies are stored on your device for varying periods:
- Session Cookies: Temporary cookies that expire when you close your browser.
- Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device until they expire (from 10 minutes to 1 year, as shown in section 2) or you delete them.
- Browser Storage: Stays on your device until you clear it, except that a cart left untouched for 30 days is emptied and session storage ends when you close the tab.
- Data collected by cookies is retained as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to This Cookies Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy on our Website with a revised “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Website after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
